When you visit his site be sure to drill down through his galleries. There are a few crackers in the sets and it's worth the effort to rummage. A few shots from Yellow Mountain (Huang Shan), the grasslands of western provinces and stars rotating through the night sky are of particular note.
His site also has a few suggestions for where to photograph in China and good advice to assist with your travel planning. I'm pleased to say he enjoys the charms of Xitang and the other Water Towns near Shanghai as much as I do.
Aside from the practical information offered freely by Oleg there is a little philosophy at work as well. I appreciate such cognitive contemplation of photography as an art form. In one essay Oleg points out the connection between landscape photography and Confucius, who is quoted as saying, "Sage favours water, benevolent favours mountains (智者乐水仁者乐山)".
To have both water and mountains is clearly an ideal situation for any landscape photographer. Had Confucius been a travel journalist he might have added, "Pragmatist favours water with mountains and a good looking backpacker trekking through the foreground."
